PHOTOSHOP

I used photoshop to make my album panes and advert. In AS media my use of tools was limited but now I have further my understanding. When I was making my magazine I was only using the text tool and placing images. While making my album print products I used more tools in Photoshop.

I learned how to adjust the colour of my images. Some of the first pictures we took were dark and looked low quality. To change this I used the brightness/contrast to brighten the images and make them look clearer. I also used hue/saturation to adjust the images that we took with the red filter. In some of the pictures, the red looked washed out so I used hue/saturation to make the red look darker for some pictures.

Magic selection tool used to remove the background of the original image

I did some experiments using the magic selection tool. I used this tool to remove the background so that I would blend it on the back cover of my album. I did not use the magic selection tool on finished product because it looked very unprofessional and it did not give me the effect I was looking for.

Instead, I used the gradient tool to achieve a faded effect on my images. I didn’t want the line of where the image ended and the black background to be harsh so I used the gradient tool to blend them together.

The path tool was used to create the text that went around the circumference on my CD.

I used the rectangle tool to make the border on my front and back cover. Then in that layer, I used the soft overlay effect to make the border semi-transparent. I used layers more effectively this year. I learned the importance of moving layers above and below to get the results I wanted. For example, on the front cover, had to put the image below the layer that had the gradient fade otherwise the fade wouldn’t show. Then I had to make sure that the layer with the text was above the layer with the fade. If I didn’t do this the layer with the fade would have blocked the layer with the text and you wouldn’t see it.

I used the rectangle marquee tool to cut out parts of the photos that we took. For example on the back cover, I didn’t want to include an image of my artist and I just wanted the red background. To get the red background I use the rectangle marquee tool to cut it out of the image.

After the soft overlay effect

I found rasterizing layers helpful. This stopped layers from being easily changed. For example, before I rasterised the text I could change the font and what the text said. After I rasterized the text it became like a picture and I could longer change what the text said. Merging visible layers was also helpful. This allowed me to merge the specific layers together. For example, there were pictures and text that were not in the same layer so I merged them and they became in the same layer and I could move them all at the same time.
